TOKYO -- Japan's core consumer price index, which excludes fresh food, rose 3.1% in July from a year earlier, down from a 3.3% rise in June, according to official data released Friday.
The latest figure stayed above the Bank of Japan's 2% target for the 16th consecutive month.
