Third quarter of expansion aided by higher-than-expected consumption

TOKYO -- Japan's economy grew an annualized 2.8% in the October-December period from the previous three months, according to preliminary government figures issued on Monday, marking the third consecutive quarter of expansion.

The latest real gross domestic product growth rate exceeded a median forecast of a 1% gain by economists surveyed by QUICK, a Nikkei group company.
