TOKYO -- Japan's economy is estimated to have grown at an annualized rate of 1.0% in December from the previous month, driven by a surge in exports ahead of possible new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, the Japan Center for Economic Research said Wednesday.

The think tank also said Japan's gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity, is likely to have expanded at an annualized pace of 1.4% in October to December versus the preceding quarter.
