Japan's bullet trains may link Bangkok, Chiang Mai

Japan's bullet train, or the "shinkansen" in Tokyo.

BANGKOK -- Thailand is expected to adopt Japan's bullet train technology for a high-speed rail project that could be worth 430 billion baht ($12.8 billion).

     Transport ministers from both countries are to sign a railway cooperation agreement Wednesday in Tokyo. Unlike previous pacts, the one inked by Japan's Akihiro Ohta and Thai counterpart Prajin Juntong will specify bullet trains.
