KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's gross domestic product expanded 5% in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the same period last year, its central bank announced on Friday, as the Southeast Asian economy continued to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic which had led to the closure of countless businesses and pushed up joblessness.
The GDP figure for the January-March period was higher than the fourth quarter of 2021, when the economy grew 3.6% year-on-year, according to data released by the Bank Negara Malaysia.
