Malaysia prepares to leave its mark on ASEAN

Nazir Razak, chairman of CIMB Group Holdings

KUALA LUMPUR -- Nazir Razak, chairman of CIMB Group Holdings, one of Malaysia's two largest lenders, wants the private sector to be more involved in driving the economic integration of Southeast Asia.

At a recent CIMB-sponsored luncheon with Zeti Aziz, Malaysia's central bank governor, the chairman declared, "Since I pay for the lunch, I get to ask questions." He went on to pitch the idea of a regional secretariat for financial services; the governor promptly expressed her support.
