Midsize companies outside major metropolitan areas gaining traction

TOKYO -- Pretax profits of midsize companies based in smaller regional cities of Japan rose above pre-financial crisis levels to reach a record in the year ended in March -- a sign that the earnings recovery is broadening beyond blue chip corporations.
