Musician Dick Lee on Singapore's quest for identity

SINGAPORE -- What makes someone a Singaporean? Dick Lee, one of Singapore's best-known musicians, has been asking this question since his debut in 1974.

Born into an English-speaking family in a society made up largely of different immigrant groups, Lee says he has been motivated by the search for identity, both as a Singaporean and as an Asian. It is a quest that mirrors Singapore's search for a national identity, he told the Nikkei Asian Review.
