CHIANG MAI -- Myanmar's parallel National Unity Government, which coordinates opposition to the military regime, has announced a two-week offensive ceasefire in areas affected by Friday's earthquake to enable relief supplies to reach victims.

The move came as the United Nations declared that "urgent humanitarian assistance is required to support those affected," citing damage to telecommunications, transport and health infrastructure. It estimated that 20 million people had been affected by the disaster.
