BEIJING/TOKYO -- North Korean authorities apparently have decided to tear down at least one farming village in its entirety following a severe flood, an investigation by Nikkei suggests, with the presumed intent to rebuild a new, modernized community from scratch.

The heavy rain that struck the China-North Korea border region in late July caused flooding from the Yalu River.
