TOKYO -- With Tokyo becoming an international tourism hot spot, officials have been busy conducting disaster drills with non-Japanese speakers in mind.

During an evacuation drill last month in Tokyo's Shinjuku ward, no one was allowed to speak Japanese. Participants playing the part of foreign nationals used translation apps to speak to first responders.
