TOKYO -- Toyota Motor and Subaru are shutting down certain assembly lines in Japan after this week's powerful earthquakes in the northeast disrupted supply chains.

Toyota will halt 18 production lines at 11 of its domestic plants from this coming Monday through Wednesday in a move estimated to affect roughly 20,000 vehicles.
