Philippines, Indonesia to revamp tourism sector amid reopening

Southeast Asia pushes for a more resilient industry to deal with future crises

TOKYO/HO CHI MINH CITY -- The Philippines and Indonesia are boosting efforts to lure back foreign tourists as they relax border restrictions, tourism officials said at an event on Thursday.

The Philippines will focus "on job and income recovery and preparing the industry for the aftermath of the pandemic," Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said at a two-day symposium hosted by the Asian Development Bank. The country reopened its borders to fully vaccinated travelers from over 150 countries in February.
