MANILA -- Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday suspended implementation of the country's first sovereign wealth fund, just months after he signed it into law and lauded the launch to global investors.

The surprise move was referenced in a government memo dated Thursday amid brewing opposition from economists, academics and civil society groups.
