Postwar Japan's development showed Asia the way forward

Japan has in the last 70 years been a major inspiring force for a large part of the world. The country's success has been based on what it established in the Meiji period: the pursuit of modernity without losing its traditional cultural base. Also, Japan established that you don't have to follow Europe and America in their process of economic development, whereby industries come first and, gradually, human capabilities catch up.
