JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia -- Singapore on Tuesday launched a QR code-based clearance process at its land checkpoints for travelers departing from and arriving in the city-state by car, in an effort to ease congestion at its border with Malaysia, one of the busiest crossings in the world.
Instead of presenting their passports at a counter, travelers can scan QR codes displayed on their smartphones at Singapore's two land checkpoints connecting to Malaysia's southern state of Johor, where both sides are seeking tighter business links and better connectivity.
