BANGKOK -- Thailand's economy returned to year-on-year contraction in the three months ending September due to the country's delta-strain outbreaks that led to business lockdowns in heavily-affected provinces, including Bangkok.

The health of economies in Southeast Asia differed depending on the impact of the variant and subsequent lockdowns. The Philippines and Indonesia grew, while Vietnam and Malaysia contracted.
