KUALA LUMPUR/SINGAPORE -- Southeast Asian nations should seek to minimize the impact of new U.S. tariffs by deepening intra-regional trade links and strengthening ties with markets such as Europe and India, businesspeople and analysts have advised.
But some observers suggested that governments are more likely to negotiate directly with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to reduce their tariff rate, or seek competition rather than cooperation with their neighbors to exploit differences in the levies imposed on each nation.
