China blasts Canada over Meng Wanzhou extradition move

Decision to proceed with hearing constitutes 'severe political incident,' Beijing says

NEW YORK -- Canada's move start extradition proceedings against the chief financial officer of Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies has met with condemnation from China and threatens to raise tensions further between the two countries.

China "deplores and firmly opposes" Canadian measures concerning Meng Wanzhou, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Saturday. Meng is the daughter of Huawei's founder Ren Zhengfei.
