China hikes tariffs on U.S. to 125%, says it will stop there

Beijing says U.S. goods are not commercially viable under such high duties

SHANGHAI/HONG KONG -- China on Friday raised its retaliatory tariff rate against the U.S. to 125%, from 84%, and said it would not respond to further hikes by President Donald Trump.

The announcement could mark an inflection point in the spiraling trade war between the superpowers.
