HONG KONG -- China retaliated against the latest U.S. trade war salvo on Tuesday with new levies on a wide range of agricultural products including meats and grains, underscoring Beijing's desire to show resolve and revive confidence as leaders gather for their biggest annual political event this week.
China announced 15% tariffs on chicken, wheat, corn and cotton, as well as 10% duties on soybeans, sorghum, pork, beef and dairy products among other agricultural produce, starting next Monday, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Finance.
