TOKYO -- China on Monday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that Beijing had violated a trade truce reached last month, calling the accusation "unreasonable" and urging Washington to uphold the deal.
"The U.S. has unilaterally continued to provoke new economic and trade frictions" since the two sides achieved a breakthrough in talks in Geneva in mid-May, China's Ministry of Commerce said. The statement came just ahead of a possible phone call between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which the two leaders are expected to discuss the trade tensions.
