WASHINGTON -- Brimming with assurance in the strength of the U.S. economy, President Donald Trump appears committed to a test of endurance against China to achieve goals beyond narrowing their trade gap.

"JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!" the president tweeted on Friday, when nonfarm payroll data showed the economy added more than 200,000 jobs in June.
