HONG KONG -- Chinese e-commerce platforms like Temu, Shein and Alibaba's AliExpress are racing into the unknown as U.S. President Donald Trump puts his stamp on trade and customs policy.

Trump's new additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports took effect Monday, prompting retaliatory tariffs from Beijing. The president had also closed a loophole, known as de minimis, that exempted goods valued at less than $800 -- a category that covered the vast majority of sales made by these platforms. Then came a chaotic Wednesday, when the U.S. Postal Service suspended inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong, only to reverse the decision the same day.
