BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are aiming to clinch a "framework agreement" on trade when they meet for dinner Saturday, as prospects for a full-fledged deal fade.

The agreement would set up a mechanism for bilateral cabinet-level talks on solutions to trade and investment issues with the U.S. holding off on further tariff hikes during the discussions, similar to the trade negotiations the Trump administration has started with the European Union and Japan.
