WASHINGTON -- As U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent heads into tariff negotiations with Japan, the talks will be a test of his expansive vision for a new international economic order.

Bessent, a former hedge fund manager who cut his teeth under billionaire George Soros, is no stranger to Japan. His deep analysis of Shinzo Abe's Abenomics policies allowed him to reap huge profits from a weak yen.
