TOKYO -- Japan will not be able to reach an agreement with the U.S. on tariff negotiations without a reassessment of duties on autos and other goods, lead negotiator Ryosei Akazawa said Saturday.

Akazawa, who serves as economic and fiscal policy minister, spoke with reporters after briefing Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Thursday's minister-level talks with U.S. counterparts in Washington.
