CANBERRA -- Australia's Minister for Trade Don Farrell says the government will stay "calm" and make an argument to the Trump administration that hitting Australia with tariffs on steel and aluminum is not necessary because the trade relationship is already "overwhelmingly in America's favor."

Farrell spoke to Nikkei Asia at an event in Canberra on Monday, hours after the new U.S. president announced he would levy a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports in the latest shot fired in his trade war.
