NEW YORK -- The cost of container shipments on trade routes between China and the U.S. is falling this week after U.S. President Donald Trump held off on fresh tariffs, easing some of pressure on shipping rates that had built up ahead of Monday's inauguration.

Trump did not follow through with his threats to impose tariff increases on goods from China, Canada and Mexico on his first day in office and instead ordered an investigation into "unfair" trade practices.
