China to restrict antimony exports in latest rare-metal curbs

Controls on flame-retardant mineral do not target specific countries, Beijing says

BEIJING -- China said Thursday that it will limit exports of antimony, a rare metal used in vehicles and electronics, along with related products and refining technology.

Starting Sept. 15, exporters will need to apply for advance permission to export the mineral, which is used as a flame retardant and in other applications.
