NEW YORK -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent criticized the current international trade system on Thursday as "not sustainable" for the U.S., saying President Donald Trump's tariff policies have begun the process of reorienting Washington's international economic relations toward an "America First" policy.
"To the extent that another country's practices harm our own economy and people, the United States will respond. This is the 'America First' trade policy," Bessent said.
