TOKYO -- Japan and the U.K. plan to underscore the importance of free trade at their inaugural economic "two-plus-two" dialogue on Friday, as steep tariffs and other protectionist policies are being advanced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yoji Muto will meet in Tokyo with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds.
