Japan to expand antidumping duties to fight evasion

TOKYO -- Japan seeks to broaden its antidumping duties to cover products routed through third countries, Nikkei has learned, aiming to curb inflows of goods -- like Chinese steel -- that may enjoy unfair price advantages.

Japan's current duties apply only to products from specific countries of origin. They do not cover materials or components shipped from those locations and processed elsewhere, or goods that have been slightly altered. Japan seeks to tighten these loopholes, as well as make it easier to investigate suspected circumvention.
