OTTAWA -- Canada should seize the opportunity of chairing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in 2024 to propose creative ways to push Taiwan's accession plans forward, former government officials said at a forum in Ottawa.
Starting January, Canada will receive the baton from New Zealand as the rotating chair of the CPTPP commission, the 11-member trade pact's steering committee. As chair it will be tasked with handling the accession talks of China and Taiwan, which both applied in September 2021.
