HANOI -- Vietnam's economy expanded 5.05% in 2023, missing the government's official growth target of 6.5%, as the Southeast Asian export hub suffered from slowing overseas demand.

The latest annual Gross Domestic Product figure is in marked contrast to 2022 when Vietnam posted an 8.02% expansion, its fastest in a quarter century, as exports and domestic retail sales rebounded after the government lifted all of its pandemic lockdown measures.
