TOKYO -- Canada is willing to provide Japanese companies a "warm, welcome" environment for gaining access to critical minerals needed for electric vehicle batteries, said Ian McKay, the Canadian ambassador to Japan.

The Canadian government is prepared to "support and facilitate and accelerate whatever it is that the Japanese companies need to succeed in Canada," McKay told Nikkei in a recent interview in Tokyo.
