GUANGZHOU/BEIJING -- When Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered his high-profile speech at this month's annual National People's Congress, automobiles were mentioned no less than five times, underscoring how important the industry is to China's economic prospects.

Along with electric vehicles and other new energy vehicles (NEVs), EV batteries and semiconductors will determine economic growth. Three top executives in those sectors, who also served as NPC delegates, told Nikkei how they plan to expand China's global representation in their respective fields.
