BRUSSELS -- The European Union is looking to agree on blocwide rules for generative artificial intelligence like ChatGPT as early as this year, European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager told Nikkei on Monday.

"It would be good to pass it as fast as possible," said Vestager, who is in charge of EU policies on competition and AI.
