TOKYO -- French hospitality group Barriere will set up a Japanese unit in November to prepare for entering the casino business legalized under new legislation, seeking to attract customers with its luxury European brand.

"While U.S. and Chinese peers with track records in Las Vegas and Macao are competitive, Barriere can offer something totally different as a luxury European brand," Jonathan Strock, director of casino development, told Nikkei in an interview. He is slated to become the president of the new local unit.
