AUSTIN, Texas -- Honda Motor is courting engineering talent from across the group in preparation for returning to Formula One racing in 2026 as a power unit supplier for the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, Honda Racing President Koji Watanabe told Nikkei recently.

Under new regulations taking effect that year, F1 power units will need to have increased battery power and an even split between internal combustion engines and electric power. The Japanese automaker faces the challenge of balancing the sport's shift toward more sustainable practices with the raw speed required to win races, all while keeping development costs below the mandated cap.
