SINGAPORE -- U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is renewing his commitment to prioritizing the Indo-Pacific region despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine as he kicks off a trip to Japan, Singapore and India.

Austin will meet Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada in Tokyo on Thursday and attend the Asian security conference known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, which opens in Singapore on Friday, and deliver a speech on Asian policy. He will visit India afterward.
