TAIPEI -- Japan's push to rebuild its advanced chip industry looks "promising" and "impressive" despite massive work ahead and fierce competition from leading chipmakers, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet told Nikkei Asia.

Fouquet, who leads the world's top chipmaking equipment maker by market capitalization, said Japan still has a lot of work to do in its bid to build the world's most advanced 2-nanometer chips and beyond.
