SYDNEY -- As Australia revisits the idea of building a high-speed rail link, Masafumi Shukuri, who chairs an industry group that promotes Japan's shinkansen bullet trains, expressed hopes of bringing the technology to the country.
Shinkansen's design prioritizes avoiding collisions, and the technology is noted for safety and punctuality. The International High-Speed Rail Association, which counts Central Japan Railway, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries among its members, aims to turn the technology into the global standard for high-speed rail.
