Japanese mushroom grower sees fertile ground in Southeast Asia

Top supplier of feathery maitake also eyes M&A deals in North America, Europe

NIIGATA, Japan -- Japan's largest producer of maitake mushrooms will branch out beyond its home market into Southeast Asian and Western markets, seeing a rise in demand among health-conscious consumers as a growth opportunity.

"We're really starting to expand overseas to tap into markets where we can expect steady future growth," Masafumi Yuzawa, CEO of Yukiguni Maitake, told Nikkei.
