LONDON -- Japan's Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance plans to roughly double its insurance underwriting capacity in the U.K. to 3 billion pounds ($3.78 billion) within five years, the company's chief told Nikkei in an interview.

British subsidiary MS Amlin, which operates in the Lloyd's of London insurance market, has regained financial footing, according to Mitsui Sumitomo CEO and President Shinichiro Funabiki.
