More EVs mean more industrial robots, Fanuc chief says

Yamaguchi outlines how his company stands to gain from auto industry's paradigm shift

Fanuc is a leading Japanese player in automation, with its industrial robots widely used in the auto industry.

TOKYO -- Japanese industrial robot builder Fanuc sees big opportunities in the global shift to electric vehicles, President and CEO Kenji Yamaguchi told Nikkei.

EVs are very different in design from gasoline-powered vehicles -- requiring fewer parts, for example. But "manufacturing lines for EVs involve more robots than those for gasoline-powered cars," Yamaguchi said.
