TAIPEI -- Taiwanese companies invested more in Southeast and South Asia than China for the first time in 2022, a cabinet minister told Nikkei Asia, as Beijing flexes its economic might to pressure voters ahead of Taiwan's presidential election.
"It's the very first time in 2022 that Taiwanese investment in Southeast Asia and South Asia actually outpaced [that going to] China," Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua said in an exclusive interview on Tuesday. "We think the trend will only continue because of the push from the U.S.-China trade tensions."
