TOKYO -- Miami-Dade county Mayor Daniella Levine Cava told Nikkei on Wednesday that she was "very hopeful" for Japan Airlines to start direct flights between Tokyo and Miami as early as 2025.

Miami International Airport is a hub for American Airlines and serves many flights to major Central and South American airports. Cava said the county is in talks with Japan Airlines, but she acknowledged it may take time before an announcement can be made.
