WASHINGTON -- The U.S. is willing to assist Japan in acquiring and improving a counterstrike capability to launch missiles at enemy territory, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at National Security Council, told Nikkei in an interview.
"If Japan requests assistance with improving any of their capabilities, we would certainly work to provide that," Kirby, a former Pentagon press secretary, told Nikkei in Washington on Thursday.
