WASHINGTON -- Japan's foreign minister hailed the new U.S. secretary of state, Marco Rubio, saying he made it clear that the U.S. will work to maintain deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, following Tuesday's foreign ministerial meeting of the Quad -- the U.S., Japan, India and Australia.

Iwaya and Rubio held talks Wednesday after Donald Trump's inauguration as president on Monday.
